Introduction
Today I watched a short movie called ‘Consequences’. This movie is aimed at all those people who use social networks and is about being careful with what you post on the Internet. The purpose of the movie is to remind us that whatever we post publicly, anyone can potentially see, and that we must be cautious towards people we meet over the Internet, as they may not always be who we think they are.
What I Liked
The acting and filming of this movie was excellent, and really made it more believable. This makes it a lot easier to relate with ‘Jade’, the victim. Actually seeing the fear and worry she went through, and knowing that it could easily happen to any of us if we are careless, really gives it that much more of an impact. I think that if the acting had been amateurish, it would not have had the same impact that it has.
Another good point about it is that it really shows what it was intended to show, that we are all capable of giving away information that we don’t think could do any harm, but can cause a major problem or danger. The movie highlights the fact that we have to consider that anybody is going to be able to get the information that we post. I think it definitely succeeded in showing this.
One other thing that I found Interesting, and was quite clever, is that the guy who was presenting the movie started out as someone who, I thought, was the ‘Good guy’. However, as the movie progressed, it became more and more obvious that he was actually the ‘Baddie’, stalking a girl named Jade. This was a very clever trick and I did not expect it. It just goes to show that we can easily get the wrong idea as to who a person is.
What would I Have Done Differently?
This movie was probably one of the best I have seen of this sort, and there is not really that much that I can think of that they could have done better. One of the good things about making a movie to show these sort of things is that, while reading a text that tells you, “Be careful because online predators can easily get your personal information”, is good, a movie can actually show how easy it is for someone to find out heaps of things about you. Being able to see this is far more effective than text and can often be easier to understand as well.
Conclusion
All-in-all, this movie has definitely achieved what it set out to do, and that was to show the danger of posting personal information on the Internet. I think this movie is very well done, both the script and the recording. It is quite long, but at the same time it is very educational and quite captivating to. You start to identify with the characters and can picture yourself in the same situation as Jade, and this is another thing I think the makers of the movie were trying to do.
I like ‘Consequences’ and think it is one of the best videos I have seen of its kind. It really made me think about who can see my personal information, and how I can prevent the wrong people from seeing it.
The makers of ‘Consequences’ have done a very good job at getting the message across that we can’t be too careful with our personal information.
