INTRO

Today I watched a YouTube video called Consequences. This video is about a teenage girl who did not have her settings on private on one of her pages and a predator had accessed her profile and saw every little detail about her. At the start of the video the predator tells us a little about himself. The predator is a young adult that lives at home by himself. He mentions what he likes to do such as play online games with who ever he wants and another game called detective where he tries to guess where his online friends live, and what school they go to etc. The predator has his eye particularly on one girl called Jade, who is a young teenager at school. The purpose of this video is to warn, teach and make young kids, teens and young adults think twice about what they are uploading to their page and who can see and access all sorts of information.

Features that are well done

I think that the camera angles were done very well, as the camera captured every emotion of the characters. This was one of the main points of the video that stood out for me. I also think the actors did a very good job of how the character were played. This was good because it showed how the teenage girl dealt with a real life situation that happens a lot.

Features that are done differently

This video was made different to the other videos I have watched on online safety. In the video consequences it shows the predators view of the story at the start and the teenage girls view towards the end.

In the “online predator” video it shows the boy typing to a stranger online, and the predators hands when he is typing.

In the consequences video it made me think twice about what I put on the Internet and my privacy settings. The online predator video didn’t really make me feel too worried talking online as I don’t go on any chat rooms or msn I only speak to people I know.

My Own Ideas:

I think to make this video better about consequences there should have been texts on the screen showing the warnings and signs not just speaking of them. As this would help people understand the warnings better.

This would have to be the only idea I have to make this video better.

Conclusion:

This is one of the best videos I have seen about online safety. This is because it shows how a predator got a hold of a teenage girl’s information and tracked her down, stalked and frightened her and how the teenager “Jade” dealt with this situation. I think seeing a video on online safety is better than reading it on paper because it is visual and shows what can actually happen in this situation and it is easier to understand by seeing in actors play characters to show what can happen.

I do think this video met its purpose, it would help people think about what they put online. Personally for me it did make me think about my privacy settings on websites such as Facebook. It might say it’s automatically secure but it’s always good to double-check the settings just to be on the safe side.  I would recommend for young kids, teens and young adult to watch this video so they are aware of what can happen.
