The Surviving Shires

G’day every one,

How you all been?

This post is about two shires,  the Shire of Manjimup and the Shire of Northam Battling for survival. Which one will survive?

Survival question 1.

How “attractive” do the home pages look?

The Shire of Manjimup: It looked colorful with some photos up the top and a web site that gives the feel of the bush.

The Shire of Northam: Looks very professional, neat and good looking.

Who survived this survival question?   The Shire of Northam.

Survival question 2.

Can you find the name of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)? If so what his his/her name and was it easy to find?

The Shire of Manjimup: I typed it up in the search box and it came up straight away. The name is Jeremy  Hubble.

The Shire of Northam: The same a the Shire of Manjimup I typed it up and it came up straight away. The name is Mr N A(Neville) Hale.

Who survived this survival question? Its a tie.

Survival question 3.

Can you find information about a library, its opening hours and services?

The Shire of Manjimup: I found the opening hours and they are

Monday – Friday: 10.30am – 5.00pm

Thursday: 10.30am – 7.00pm

Saturday: 9.30am – 12.00pm

The Shire of Northam: I found the opening hours for Northam and they are

Monday:       9.30am – 5pm

Tuesday:      9.30am – 7pm

Wednesday:  9.30am – 5pm

Thursday:     9.30am – 7pm

Friday:          9.30am – 5pm

Saturday:      9.30am – 12noon

Who survived this survival question? Northam. Why because they advertise heaps of other activities. Here they are

Storytime

Survival question 4.

Find out where on the site the information about fire break regulations is placed.

The Shire of Manjimup: There are some fire break information. Here is the link:http://www.manjimup.wa.gov.au/policies_and_documents/documents/5._environmental.pdf/view?searchterm=fire%20breaks I found this hard to find. It took me quite a while but I found it.

The Shire of Northam: There was a pdf and here is the link:http://www.northam.wa.gov.au/council_services/ranger_services/firebreak I found this one quite easy.

Who survived this survival question? Northam, because it was easy to find.

Survival question 5.

Does the site advertise local/community events?

The Shire of Manjimup: I found it quite easy to find a page for events but they were for last year and the year before.

The Shire of Northam: Northam has events on their side bar and their next event will be a Ordinary Meeting of Council on the 18 July 2012.

Who survived this survival question? Northam, for keeping up to date and because they had their events very easy to see.

The last survival question, Survival question 6.

How easy is it to navigate (find your way around) the website?

Navigation is very important for survival, lets see how they did:

The Shire of Manjimup: It was easy with the search box. If it did not have a search box it would be very had to navigate

The Shire of Northam: They had a very good search which was very easy to find things. Even with out using the search box it was very easy to navigate.

Who survived this survival question? Northam because it was the easiest to navigate.

Which shire was able to navigate to safety? Well I’m not going to tell you now I will tell you in three weeks (the 25/August/2012). In till then from the information above I want you to vote on which shire you thought had the best survival skills and was able to navigate home safely.

Please note: the Manjimup Shire has changed their web site since I have done this post.
